According to a recent survey, the number of Americans who own cryptocurrency has seen a significant increase over the past few years. As of 2022, approximately 16% of the U.S. population, or around 52 million people, have invested in digital assets. Despite the growth, the level of enthusiasm and understanding of cryptocurrency remains fragmented. "The adoption of cryptocurrency is still in its early stages, and while a notable number of people are optimistic about the future of digital currencies, many remain skeptical," says Alex Larsen, financial advisor at Mintel.
While cryptocurrency is gaining traction in the United States, the actual number of people using it is still a fraction of the overall population. "It's surprising that more people are not holding cryptocurrency, given its growing popularity and perceived ease of use," notes Robert Lunsford, vice president of a financial services firm. He suggests that the main obstacle to wider adoption is the complexity and volatility of the market, as well as a lack of understanding about how to navigate it.
One notable factor that has contributed to the slow adoption of cryptocurrency in the U.S. is the lack of comprehensive education. Many potential investors are hesitant to dive into digital currencies without proper knowledge and guidance, which often leads to anxiety and uncertainty. As a result, the general public continues to wait and observe before making investments. Based on a survey by financial research firm Lending Club: "Only 28% of investors in the U.S. reported understanding cryptocurrency fairly well or very well"

Breaking down the numbers, certain age groups within the U.S. population are more likely to invest in cryptocurrency than others. For example:
- Investors aged 25 to 34 made up a larger percentage of cryptocurrency investors, standing 23.1%
